What if it's been a while since my last appointment — do I need a reassessment?

Life happens — sometimes patients step away from their taper for a few months and want to come back to Outro, or they realize their last clinician visit was a while ago. Here’s what to expect.

The 90-day rule

If it has been more than 90 days since your last clinician visit, we’ll need to schedule a reassessment appointment before continuing your taper or issuing new prescriptions. This isn’t a hurdle for its own sake — it’s a clinical safety standard that ensures your care team has the most up-to-date picture of your health, medications, and goals before making dose changes.

What a reassessment looks like

  • Length: 40 minutes (compared to a standard 20-minute follow-up).
  • Cost: Billed at the reassessment rate listed in your membership plan. If you’re on cash-pay, this is $175. If you’re on an insurance-based plan, your usual copay/visit cost applies.
  • What we cover: A full review of your current medication and dose, any symptoms you’ve experienced during the gap, life or health changes, and an updated taper plan going forward.

Common scenarios

“I was approved months ago but never started.”

If you completed an initial consultation but didn’t enroll within ~90 days, you’ll need a brief reassessment before starting. Your previous evaluation is still on file, so the visit focuses on confirming your current medication, dose, and readiness to begin.

“I paused my subscription and want to come back.”

If your pause was under 90 days, we can typically reactivate you and pick up where you left off. If it’s been longer, a reassessment is required before resuming your taper. See Can I pause my Outro subscription? for more.

“My next appointment is booked as a 20-minute follow-up, but it’s been more than 90 days.”

Our care team monitors this and will reach out to convert it to a 40-minute reassessment automatically. You don’t need to do anything — we’ll send a message confirming the updated time and any change in cost.

“I have nothing new to discuss — do I still need an appointment?”

Yes. Even if you’re feeling stable, we’re required to do a reassessment after 90 days before issuing prescriptions or updating your plan. Think of it as a check-in to make sure nothing has changed that would affect your taper.

How to book

  1. Sign in to the Outro Portal and visit your Appointments page.
  2. Choose a time with your clinician. If you don’t see availability, message the care team and we’ll add you in manually.
  3. If you’re unsure which visit type to book, reach out at care@outro.com and we’ll confirm and schedule for you.

Refills during the gap

If you’re running low on medication while waiting for a reassessment, let us know as soon as possible. Your clinician may be able to issue a short bridge prescription to cover you until the visit, depending on the situation.
