What should I know about my compounding pharmacy?

Working with your compounding pharmacy

Many Outro patients use compounded medications — custom-prepared doses made by a specialty pharmacy. Here's what to expect and some tips to make the process smooth.

How it works

  1. Your clinician sends the prescription directly to the compounding pharmacy after your appointment.
  2. The pharmacy contacts you — typically by phone — to confirm the medication, dose, payment, and shipping address before compounding.
  3. The pharmacy compounds and ships your medication — this can take several business days depending on the pharmacy.

Tips for a smooth experience

  • Answer calls from your pharmacy — they need verbal confirmation before they can fill your order. If you miss the call, call them back promptly to avoid delays.
  • Confirm the dose when they call — double-check that the dose they're compounding matches what your clinician discussed with you. If something looks off, let us know right away.
  • Plan ahead for refills — compounding takes time. If you're running low (less than 7 days of medication remaining), reach out to us immediately so we can start your next prescription.
  • Check your shipment when it arrives — verify the medication name, dose, and quantity match your prescription.
