What happens if my clinician changes?

We understand that the relationship with your clinician is important, especially during a taper. Occasionally, clinician changes happen — and when they do, we make the transition as smooth as possible.

What to expect

  1. You'll be notified in advance — We'll reach out by email to let you know about the change and introduce your new clinician before any transition happens. You'll receive a short bio so you know what to expect.
  2. Your taper plan continues — Your new clinician will have your full medical history, taper plan, symptom tracking data, and session notes. Nothing is lost.
  3. Warm handoff — Your previous clinician provides a detailed briefing to your new clinician so they're fully up to speed on your progress, preferences, and any concerns.
  4. We'll help you schedule — Our care team will work with you to get your next appointment booked with your new clinician at a time that works for you.

Your complimentary meet-and-greet visit

To make the transition as smooth as possible, your first appointment with your new clinician will be a complimentary 40-minute follow-up visit, at no extra cost. This gives you both plenty of time to get to know each other and align on next steps for your taper. This visit is offered in addition to your regular monthly appointment and does not count against your membership's included visit.

How to book your meet-and-greet

  1. Visit the appointment booking page in the Outro Portal.
  2. Select the Follow-up (40 min) appointment type.
  3. Choose a time that works for you with your new clinician.

If you don't see your new clinician's availability in the portal, or you'd like help choosing a time, just reach out and our care team will set it up for you directly.

Will my taper plan change?

Your taper plan stays the same unless your new clinician recommends an adjustment based on their clinical judgment. If any changes are suggested, they'll always be discussed with you first — nothing changes without your input.

What about prescriptions during the transition?

If you need a refill before your first appointment with your new clinician, let us know. Until you've officially met, your new clinician can typically continue your current dose as a bridge. Any dose changes will wait until your first visit together so they can review your case thoroughly.

Why do clinician changes happen?

Like any clinical practice, our clinicians occasionally move on for personal or professional reasons. We're actively growing our clinical team and are committed to matching you with a knowledgeable, attentive clinician who is fully aligned with the deprescribing approach Outro is built on. Every clinician on our team has been trained in hyperbolic tapering and the principles that guide our care.

Questions during the transition?

If you have any concerns or questions during a clinician transition, don't hesitate to reach out through your Outro portal or email hello@outro.com. Our care team is here to support you every step of the way.
